Anointing of the Sick
Sometimes people refer to this sacrament as the "Last Rites" but that is a misleading term; the Anointing of the Sick can be received as often as the believer desires and should not be postponed until death is thought to be near. The Sacrament gives spiritual strength and comfort, including the forgiveness of sins to Christians who are seriously ill.
If a parishioner is to undergo a serious operation or is seriously unwell, the parish priest should be informed so that he can offer the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick before the person goes into hospital, if possible.
Also Fr Forsythe appreciate knowing of anyone who is ill so that they can offer ongoing pastoral care. A message may also be left at the parish office.
