Catholic marriage, also called matrimony, is a covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, for the good of their love and for the procreation and rearing of children. It is a solemn covenant before God in the presence of the priest and the Christian community. It is the sacrament by which the couple receive the life long grace to be faithful to their commitment.
Couples requesting to get married in the Catholic Church are to give at least 6 months notice and to undertake a pre-marriage course (e.g., such as organized by Accord).
